Triathlon 3-27-10

Last night I was running around my house looking for a few washers to fix my bike shoe cleat.. the cleats were falling off the shoes, it was a mess. Some cheap plastic was deformed causing the cleats to separate from the shoe... and me being the engineer I am, I used a few items around my house and fixed it. Like MacGyver, except I needed like 2 hours.. Its only temporary, I guess thats what I get for buying relatively cheap shoes.

10am race time, I love it. Slept in till 7, took a shower, ate some oatmeal, stretched then drove out to Smithfield, VA. Half the time driving out to these races I have to stop and ask for directions. I cannot wait till I get my new birthday gift GPS for the car.
Race temps were cold.. upper 40s and it was windy. There were probably 600 people racing.
It started with a super easy 300m pool swim. I felt fast. They started us 10 seconds apart . I was 48th to go. Onto the bike I put on some wool socks and a long sleeve over my trisut an I was off. Only a 10 mile bike leg. I was able to push pretty hard. I had fun letting myself go on the bike, which I havnt done since my last race in October. Probably averaged around 25mph. The race coarse was a mix of rollers and it was pretty windy. After a quick transition I started the 3.1 mile run. I felt pretty good considering a ran a marathon last weekend. I really have no idea how fast I was running, but I was passing people.

I finished 4th overall. And yup, 1st in my age group. Kinda picking up where I left off last year. Although, there were a few fast guys who werent racing this tri becuase of a duathlon tomorrow.
So its a good starting point to the year. I'm feeling pretty good. And I'm very excited for the season.

Over the next 3 weeks my training will be focused on keeping high intensity for long periods of time for the bike and run. And just being comfortable swimming 1.2 miles without using too much energy. I have to remember that I am a bike-run specialist. I also really need to start eating better, I've been slacking lately becuase it does take a lot of effort. I don't have people making me meals.

Next race is Duathlon National Championships April 25th. The week after is a sprint Triathlon in Smith Mountain Lake and the week after is a Half Ironman at Lake Anna.

In my opinion you are not right. I am assured. Let's discuss it. Write to me in PM, we will talk.

About the cleat? After DU Nats I took my shoes to a LBS. They fixed the problem I was having. Rookie mistake I made with the speedplay setup.. I was a bit embarrassed. Thanks for your comment.
