I have to start signing up for races in 2011 already, crazy right? But thats how it goes if I want to get registered before the events sell out.
So the problem is, I can't be 100% sure where I'll be in a year as I've become super bored of being an Engineer and also wouldn't mind a change of scenery. I decided I'm not going to compete in the Setup Events VA Tri Series next year and commit myself to more major events such as Ironman, REV3, and Lifetime Fitness events. 2011 will be my 3rd year of racing Triathlons. Still also considering the prospects of trying my hand at Pro Cycling, which would mean completely dedicating myself to cycling alone and try to earn my CAT 2 card via Road Races/Time Trials. A crazy difficult road to travel.
For me, signing up for races is all about location, the closer the race the cheaper it is to get there.
I'm looking at doing at least 3 - 70.3 Ironman races next year. The registration for Eagleman 70.3 (a June 2011 event) has already opened and will sell out within a week. This is the closest 70.3 event to me right now. So I need to decide in the next few days whether it's a good idea to throw caution to the wind and just sign up. This is the race I was crashed into this year, so I would like to get me revenge on that coarse next year. I am also looking at signing up for Augusta 70.3 (a Sept 2011 event) and qualifying for the Clearwater 70.3 World Championships (a Nov 2011 event). These races are not cheap, so signing up is a full commitment for me.
In training news I'm in the midst of a heavy building phase. Saturday I did a 104 mile bike. Sunday was a long swim. Monday included a 15 mile trail run at marathon pace and long swim. Tuesday was a 50 mile bike at 40K TT race efforts with hill repeats and a 35 minute run at a 13mi race pace. Today I will venture to the track for a few 800s and 400s then a long swim. Thursday is lining up to be an easy 40 mile bike and 10 mile run with bridge repeats. Friday will more than likely be a short swim (my day off from training).
