This week I finally received my Blue Metallic Rudy Project shades (same as Matty Reed), they are one of the best pieces of tri equipment I have now......

Left the house at 4am. It's a little under a 2 hour drive to Richmond from here. About half way through the drive I realize I forgot my goggles. Panicked for less than a second, but then knew I could probably borrow goggles from someone at the race, which I ended up doing. These races never go perfectly, and you always have to expect obstacles. Anyways I got the the race site and went through the usual setup. Since it was a pool swim and not an open water swim I didn't have to take the time getting in the water to warm up. Pool swims are 100% less stressful than open water swims. It is weird swimming in a foreign pool though. The weather was pretty much perfect.. it was probably 15 degrees cooler than last years race. They started each swimmer every 10 seconds apart. I actually started 12 minutes after the first swimmer who went. With over 600 participants that's a long time of waiting for some people. Started the bike feeling very fresh. There were a few technical turns and small hills but other than that it was a very fast coarse, I kept a little over 27 mph pace most of the time. Started the run feeling good. I made a mistake by forgetting my Garmin so I had no idea how fast I was running but just kept pushing. There were a few hills on the run. I didn't see my finish line time, so I had to wait for the results posting. Turned out I finished in 53:30 mins., tied for 6th place overall. I gotta say I was disappointed. I saw the winning time last year was just under 55 mins. The winning time this year was 51:30, go figure. A group athletes part of team endorphin (one of the race sponsors) took the top 3 places. As we all started at staggered times it was difficult for me to gauge how hard I needed to push it on the run as I had no idea who I needed to catch in front of me. I think that hurt me overall. So in the end I was 15 secs slower in the swim than I expected and about a minute slower than expected on the bike and run (I would credit the hills on the coarse for that). Although compared to last years times (when I finished 11th overall) I was at least a minute faster in each discipline this year. In the end I took 1st place in my age group category and I got beat by some guys in the overall category who didn't drive 2 hours to the race that morning and don't work at another job 40 hours a week like me... SO THERE! Setupevents did an outstanding job putting together the race.. there was no problems with cars on the coarse this year, I got a nice post race massage, and I took home a pretty sweat prize. Race pictures will be posted as soon as I get them.
Now is the time I really get my act together. I have a line of tough races ahead. This weekend coming up I will be travelling west to Lynchburg to stay with my mom as I will be spending a few days training in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Training might include an 18 mile run up and down the mountain, a 80 mile bike ride, and a bike and run transition with the run going up on a trail. It should be fun and intense and I'm looking forward to it.
Started the night before with a good quality meal, organic broc and sweet potatoes, Alaskan salmon, hummus........
