Only a few days until the Shamrock Marathon. Yup I'm gonna do it!
Normally what you do is build towards a marathon starting 12-16 weeks out then three weeks before the marathon you run your max long run, I like to do 22 miles, and then taper 3 weeks until the race. In this instance It couldnt be done. But I've somehow manage to train for the marathon in about 3 weeks, the time it takes to taper.
I started with a 13 mile run then did a 16 miler then did a 19 miler last Saturday, one week from the race. I wouldn't recommend this method to anyone EVER. I still run into groin pain at about 12 miles in, nothing show stopping though. I am still really really tight, my muscles are that is.
I do have a goal time in mind. Had I not been injured I would be shooting for sub 3 hours.
I've been running the long runs at about a 7:15 average, that's running the first half slower and running the second half faster. The marathon is all about pacing. I will most likely negative split, that is if everything goes good.
If something goes wrong I'll take a DNF. I've gone through too much recovery this off season to throw it all away on one marathon. Sometimes you gotta leave your pride at home.
So this week I will only run maybe 15 miles total and strech like crazy. The more loose my legs are the better chance I have. Also I'll be spending an unreasonable amount of time choosing my tournament brackets. Tourney time is one of the best parts of the year people!
These are my newest editions.. Karhu Fulcrum FastSpeeds. They have an old school vibe. They are fast, not faster than my Zoot TTs, but faster than my Asics Cumulus. I'll be running the marathon in them I believe.
