Surfers Healing 5K

On a whim I signed up for the Surfers Healing 5K.  This race takes place like 10 minutes from my house on the Virginia Beach boardwalk.  The race raises money for autistic children.  Team Hoyt (autistic society representative) is the major partner for the race.  It is truely an awesome cause and I was proud to participate in the event with 500 others.  As far as the run went I felt pretty decent at the start, although very tired and battling with a pulled calf muscle.  I went through the first mile under 5 minutes then just slowed a bit when I started weaving through some of the traffic on the boardwalk.  I lead the race the entire time and finished in 1st place in just under 17 minutes.  I enjoyed the race and the encouragement from all the other runners and the typical comments from spectators "Did you see that guys quads".  I tried to give as much encouragement to the Team Hoyt participants as I could.  For me it was not the best finish time in the world but I'll take it considering my circumstances.   I tyically don;t run just a 5k so Officially a sub 17 minute 5k is a personal best for me, although if I was pushed I think a sub 16 minute is possible.  I was happy to represent Team Aquaphor in this race and hope everyone enjoys their samples.

I hope to get in more speedwork before the Rock N Roll half becuase I NEED it.
